Assistance International has different projects that aim to improve health.
Assistance International aims to improve mother and child health in Tajikistan, especially in the south. This region suffers from a relatively high maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. In cooperation with local health clinics, Assistance International runs training courses for pregnant women in villages. During a course of six lessons, expectant mothers learn how to take care of their own health and how to look after their newborn babies. Emphasis is placed on healthy nutrition during pregnancy, recognizing danger signs (when to get medical help) and good breastfeeding practices. The programme also trains local health workers to provide better health care to women and children.
